2015 Volkswagen shot itself in both feet by fitting "defeat devices" to its diesel cars to cheat on NOx emissions in the USA and other countries; see 18 Sept. below. Then there were questions about the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of its petrol cars! What were they thinking? In .au, the Libs dumped Tony coal-is-good Abbott as leader and PM and installed Malcolm agile-innovator Turnbull -- business as usual: There were noises about cutting government spending and upping the GST although major companies can pay little or no tax [abc][17/12], and continued moves to reduce consumer protection despite the widening scandal in the finance industry. WTI crude oil bounced around between us$40 and $60 per barrel, dipping as low as us$35/b in December; Brent was generally $2 to $5 higher. Coal prices also fell, making the task of implementing the COP21 agreement (13 Dec.) harder, and 2015 looks to be the hottest year on record (it was - see 21 Jan. 2016). Lewis Hamilton won his third Formula One Drivers World Championship, but something needs to be done about the tyres.
